Thought I’d point out two things: First, STSDev isn’t actually my project, I just tweaked a few things in it to meet my needs. Second, STSDev automatically rebuilds manifest.xml and SolutionPackage.ddf as part of the build process, so your step 5 isn’t really necessary.
